Minneapolis, MN (WomenPR.com) - Joyce Johnson wanted something that celebrated her beauty 365 days a year. She was looking for a calendar that reflected who she was and what was important to her and other African American women. She found that most calendars were created to appeal to men and teenagers. She discovered a void in appropriate material that reflected who she was and how she saw herself and her family and friends. She found that what was available to women of color were ceremonial or shallow.
Joyce wanted a calendar that reflected the woman she is and the women she knew past and present. She was a firm believer in taking back the imagines of African American women and wanted to present the side that many knew existed but seldom portrayed or seen in the media. In her own words real women living real lives showcasing everyday women living their lives every day. The journeys calendar is her tribute to them and the lessons learned throughout life’s journeys.
The calendar is about celebrating their beauty and diversity, the beauty shared with families, friends, neighbors and coworkers. She honors and celebrates the women many see in the mirror and identify with.
She believes in helping others through her endeavors. With a special fondness for young girls, Joyce has donated and continues to donate 10% of the proceeds from 2009 Journeys to the Sisterhood Agenda organization.
Sisterhood Agenda, Inc., a global, award-winning nonprofit organization was created to uplift and aid in the self-development of women and girls of African descent, a historically at-risk and traditionally underserved population.
As a way to share her positive messages, Ms.Johnson donates a limited number of calendars to organizations that serve the community.
With increased sales , positive messages, and customer satisfaction, it is no wonder that customers have made the following comments regarding Ms. Johnson's Journeys calendar.
“Thank you for this wonderful contribution to the upliftment of black women and girls.”
“It is Beautiful!”
“It is nice to see people I can relate to.”
