Wichita, KS - (WomenPR.com) Stacey Marmolejo, owner of Paul Green School of Rock Music’s two Twin Cities locations was honored this past weekend by her Alma Mater, Newman University in Wichita, Kansas.  Marmolejo, class of ’82, was awarded the Leon A. McNeill Distinguished Alumni Award at a dinner and reception attended by students, alumni, faculty and administrators.

The Leon A. McNeill Distinguished Alumni Award honors graduates who have achieved outstanding success in their professional lives.  The award is named for the first president of Sacred Heart Junior College (1933), now Newman University.

“Marmolejo received her degree in Communications and left Newman with dreams of becoming a novelist.  More than 25 years later her career success is evidenced, but not in fiction writing.  After stints in publishing, advertising and sales, she became industry marketing director for Continental Airlines, where she participated in the marketing effort to re-brand the airline, transitioning to its current and familiar “globe” logo.  In 1992 she accepted a similar marketing position at Northwest Airlines, which took her to the Twin Cities,” explained Jean Cardenas, Marmolejo’s college advisor, Journalism professor and 1958 graduate of Sacred Heart College (now Newman University) who presented Marmolejo with her award at the dinner.

“I am humbled and honored to receive this award,” remarked Marmolejo in her acceptance speech.  “Newman challenged my thinking, supported my endeavors and encouraged my growth.  At Newman I learned the characteristics of success and I believe they continue to hold true today.

1. Help other people and your own needs will be met.
2. Be open to opportunities.  Sometimes we are so entrenched in our day to day tasks that we miss the signposts of life.
3. Consult your heart and soul on the important decisions in life.  They won’t lead you astray.
4. God has a master plan for each of us.  Do your best but if it doesn’t work out, there’s something else that is better suited for you.
5. Always, always, always express your gratitude to others. Nobody achieves success without the help of others.

Finally, I encourage everyone to pursue a career they love.  Because when you love what you do, it isn’t work.”

In addition to owning the two locations of Paul Green School of Rock Music, Marmolejo also owns an online travel business and is Vice President of Digital Media for Affinity Group where she is leading the integration of magazine content and web content for several of the company’s brands.

She balances her work with service as a strong supporter of 20Rock the Cure, a fundraising effort by musicians for the fight against breast cancer.

MUSIC

The Paul Green School of Rock Music is the original performance-based after school music program, founded in Philadelphia PA in 1998.

The school’s curriculum includes weekly one-on-one lessons, a weekly group rehearsal and a live rock performance in a real rock venue every 14 weeks.  Students ages 8 – 18 years old study guitar, bass, drums, keys or vocals and every level of student is welcome, from beginners to pre-professional.
